Day 1 San José
Arrive in San José at any time.
Day 2-3 Liberia
Say goodbye to the big city, hop on a bus, and head north on the Panamerican Highway to Liberia, which is perfectly located for a day trip to a nearby park, beach or beautiful waterfall.
Day 4-5 San Juan del Sur
Experience the first border crossing of the trip and say goodbye to the Ticos and hello to the Nicas to the north. Continuing along the Panamerican Highway, we head into low-key San Juan del Sur.
Day 6-7 Ometepe Island
Head inland from the Pacific towards the dock of San Jorge and board a ferry on Lake Nicaragua to Ometepe Island. This unspoiled island paradise formed out of the lava flowing in between two volcanoes, Maderas (1394m) and Concepción (1610m). Spend time on horseback rides, volcano climbs and chilling out on the beach.
Day 8-9 Granada
Back on the mainland, head north to Nicaragua's oldest colonial city. Granada’s charm is complemented by the surrounding active volcanoes and lakes, making for plenty of exciting day trips. Hike, cruise, or just explore the city’s markets and museums. A tour of Masaya volcano is included.
Day 10-11 Solentiname
Take a boat ride to the Solentiname Archipelago, a chain of 36 islands in Lake Nicaragua that form a paradise for birdwatchers, nature lovers, history buffs and artists.
Day 12-13 La Fortuna/Arenal
Travel by boat to San Carlos, then down the Río Frio to Los Chiles, Costa Rica. Once across the border, continue on to La Fortuna, near Arenal Volcano. Take an unforgettable night hike around the base of the volcano to see the lava top glowing an eerie red, all backed by the soundtrack of monkeys in the trees and the rumblings of the active volcano. A visit to hot springs is included.
Day 14 San José
Return to San José for a final night on the town.
